What this covers
Your Storefront automatically highlights the categories and products shoppers are most interested in. Here's how we decide what appears in your Popular categories and Popular products sections — and why they sometimes change.
Popular categories
The Popular categories section shows the categories that contain the most in-stock products in your range.
We count how many of your in-stock products belong to each Google product category, then display the top 11 by item count. For each category we also pull through one product image as a thumbnail.
As your inventory changes, the categories on display update automatically — so the categories with the largest number of in-stock products always appear first.
Why a category might not appear
- Its products haven't been categorised yet (this happens automatically, but new products take a little time to flow through)
- Its products aren't currently in stock
- It has fewer items than other categories competing for the top 11 slots
Popular products
The Popular products section is powered by Google Merchant Centre's organic search data for your shop.
We pull the products that have generated the most organic Google Shopping impressions over the last 30 days — the products shoppers most often see your shop appear for in Google searches. Paid impressions are excluded, so this reflects genuine customer interest rather than ad spend.
We then show only products that are:
- Currently in stock (quantity greater than 0)
- Priced above 0
- Complete with a title, image, and brand
- Enabled (not hidden via channel visibility settings)
We display up to 10 products. If fewer than 10 qualify, we top up the list with other in-stock products from your range. The list refreshes every 4 hours, so it stays current without changing on every page view.
Why a popular product might not appear
- It's recently gone out of stock
- It's missing required data (image, brand, or price)
- It hasn't appeared in enough Google Shopping searches in the last 30 days
- It's been hidden via channel visibility settings
