Adding the Search Widget to your website

How to add a search box to your own website that searches your live in-store stock.

🔎

What is the Search Widget?

The Search Widget is a search box you add to your own website that searches your live in-store stock. A shopper types a product name or a barcode, sees the matching products with their photo, name and price, and clicking one opens that product on your Storefront — where they can see it's in stock and how to find your shop.

It's a simple way to let visitors to your website search what's on your shelves right now, without rebuilding your site or adding a separate online shop. You install it by copying a short snippet from your Unify dashboard and pasting it into your website.

How to add it to your website

  1. In your Unify dashboard, go to Channels > Search Widget and click Enable. (If you have more than one shop, choose the shop first using the store switcher.)
  1. Click Manage to open the setup page.
  1. Copy the snippet at the bottom of the page using the Copy button.
  1. Paste it into your website wherever you'd like the search box to appear. WordPress, Squarespace, Wix and Shopify all have a place to paste HTML, so there's no development work beyond a copy and paste.

Customising how it looks

On the Manage page you can match the widget to your own branding. You can change:

  • Colour
  • Corner radius
  • Font
  • Placeholder text (the greyed-out prompt inside the search box)

The preview and the snippet update as you make changes. Once you're happy, copy the snippet again and paste the new version into your website.

What your shoppers see

  • They type a product name or barcode into the search box
  • Up to eight matching products appear beneath the box, each with a photo, name and price
  • Clicking a product opens it on your Storefront in a new tab, where they can see it's in stock and how to visit your shop

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a developer to install it? No, as long as you can paste HTML into your website. The snippet is copied from Channels > Search Widget > Manage. If you can't find where to paste it, your web person will have it done in a couple of minutes.

Why isn't one of my products showing up? The widget searches exactly what your Storefront searches. For a product to appear, it needs to be in stock and have a product title. Anything missing information is listed in your dashboard — go to Inventory and check the issues list. Fixing it there fixes it in the widget too.

Can I change how it looks? Yes. You can change the colour, corner radius, font and placeholder text from the Manage page. Beyond those four things, the layout is fixed.
